Follow up is the key to utilising this new network of people you have communicated with. A phone call to an individual is now easier, you wrote to them and they remember you as they replied, even with no job interview offer. This person is more likely to take your call and they should be impressed at your tenacity.

The purpose of your call is to ask for a meeting to present yourself. There is always something happening in the way of change. Never assume a no job answer today means just that in a month or two.

Always ask for the person by name as a personal caller is given preference and is more likely to get through than asking for a person by title.

Follow up letters are good too and very likely to get the right result but of course they are slower than the phone calls. The key to utilising this new network of people by follow up letter is that if an opportunity arises you are more likely to be remembered.
